Midwest Aero Restorations is thrilled to unveil the exceptional restoration of "Dallas Doll," serial number 44-84952, a project that underscores our passion for historical accuracy and the preservation of aviation history. This journey began with David Nock, a dedicated client with a vision to restore a P-51 Mustang to its authentic wartime splendor. Choosing 44-84952 for its solid foundation from a 1980s restoration, Nock aimed to elevate the aircraft to a new standard of authenticity, including the addition of spar and longeron replacements to match the rigorous standards of today's restoration practices.

The ambition to present 44-84952 in its original factory bare metal finish set this project apart, demanding an innovative approach to restore the aircraft's exterior. Our commitment to authenticity guided every step, ensuring the meticulous replication of the varying finishes seen on Mustangs as they left the assembly lines. This dedication to detail extended to minimizing scratches on the Alclad surface and carefully selecting original paint colors for each part we restored, truly capturing the essence of "Dallas Doll's" storied past.

Beyond the technical aspects of restoration, "Dallas Doll" represents a deep connection to the legacy of the 353rd Fighter Group, whose colors it proudly bears. This project was not just about mechanical precision but also about honoring the history and spirit of those who served with these aircraft in times of conflict. David Nock's insistence on a back seat and modern radio equipment, while ensuring the rest of the aircraft remained as historically accurate as possible, reflects a balance between preserving history and adaptation for present day flyability and safety.

"Dallas Doll's" transformation from a previously restored relic to a shining example of wartime authenticity exemplifies Midwest Aero Restorations' commitment to excellence. As "Dallas Doll" takes to the skies, it not only commemorates the valor of the past but also stands as a beacon of our dedication to preserving these flying legends for future generations. This project is a testament to our passion for aviation history and our ongoing mission to share these incredible stories through the meticulous restoration of iconic warbirds like "Dallas Doll."
